605 Magazine Article

Sioux Falls DJs Featured in 605 Magazine

It’s been about a year since my DJ Times article. This month, I am fortunate to be featured in another publication, this one with a little more local appeal. 605 Magazine interviewed Jeff Meuzelaar (Musical Edge DJ Service) and I regarding our DJ businesses and the special friendship we share.

Thank you to 605 Magazine, Hauschildts photography, Kiley Barnes (who did a great job writing the article), and Jeff for being a great friend, DJ, and competitor.

Make sure you pick up a copy of 605 Magazine, available for free throughout Sioux Falls.

Jeff took the time to scan the article and save it as a pdf - you can view the article here. Jeff also made the image at the top of this post.

Wedding Wire

Hey brides and grooms, I stumbled across a neat little wedding website called Wedding Wire today.

It has a lot of local Sioux Falls vendors on there with reviews from brides who had them at their wedding. Since I am a one-man show, I don’t do as many gigs as the bigger multi-op companies, so I was surprised to see a couple of reviews on there from my brides!

Allow me to toot my own horn a bit……………..toot, toot :)

Need Some Wedding Reception Song Ideas???

Last Saturday I DJ’ed a wedding reception in Heron Lake, MN. The bride and groom were absolutely wonderful and everyone danced the night away.

I didn’t record any video that evening, but I do have an awesome wedding reception playlist for those of you who are looking for ideas for your own wedding reception.

The beginning of the list is dinner music. You may also notice a group of slow songs in the middle of the night – that was for the dollar dance.

Hope this helps some of you out!

A Craftsman vs Some Guy With a Hammer and Nails

A man was suffering a persistent problem with his house. The floor squeaked. No matter what he tried, nothing worked. Finally, he called a carpenter who friends said was a true craftsman.

The craftsman walked into the room and heard the squeak. He set down his toolbox, pulled out a hammer and nail, and pounded the nail into the floor with three blows.

The squeak was gone forever. The carpenter pulled out an invoice slip, on which he wrote a total of $45. Above the total were two line items:

Hammering – $2
Knowing where to hammer – $43

When you hire a professional DJ for your event, you’re not just paying for access to their equipment and music library – you’re also paying for their ability to turn one night of dancing into a lifetime of memories.

Are DJ Signs or Banners OK at Wedding Receptions?

When I first started DJ’ing many years ago, I had a big banner that advertised the name of my DJ service. I did a lot of school dances back then, and proudly displayed the banner at every dance. Later on, I was scheduled to DJ the wedding reception of a friend of mine. When I was discussing things with her beforehand, she requested that I not display the banner. “But how will potential clients know who I am?” is the thought that ran through my mind. But, I also believe that my customers are always right, especially the ones who are brides :-) . I didn’t display the banner, and haven’t displayed that banner since then.

That wasn’t my last sign though. A few years later I had a small sign made (1′ x 2′) that again advertised my name. I used it at weddings and never had any complaints. But, part of me felt like this was wrong. I get paid to entertain a room full of guests, not to spend the night trying to book more gigs through advertising. Afterall, if someone is interested, they will probably ask me for a business card anyway. So, I ditched signs altogether and am confident I made the right decision.

But, I’m still curious, so……..I made a poll. If you care to, please cast your opinio

New Site is Up!

Yesterday morning, I “flipped the switch” on my new website. Hopefully, visitors will find it easy to navigate and nice to look at.

I kind of proud of the new site since I did everything myself from scratch – without using a template of any sort – just Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Hope you all like it!

New BPM DJ Productions Videos

I’m currently in the process of updating my website (who know how long that will take me), so I’ve been working on some new videos. I have a couple of them done, so I thought I would just go ahead and post them on the blog.

Hope you like them!

The New Blog Look

So I finally decided to update the look of the blog, I hope you all like it.

The upgrade isn’t only about looks, it’s about functionality. I use Yahoo as my webhost, and they haven’t updated my Wordpress version (aka blog) for years. So, I went ahead and did it manually.

Now, I’ll have more functionality and features to enrich user experience!

Plus, the design of this blog ties in with the new design of www.bpmdjproductions.com (coming soon……………or maybe later!)

What do you get when………….

…………..you combine 2 DJs off work, a Saturday night, a basement, 4 decks, 2 mixers, 2 laptops, Serato Scratch Live, Numark Virtual Vinyl, a camcorder, and a mini-keg of Heineken?

Besides a wife yelling “turn it down”, you get this:

Thank you to Jeff at Musical Edge for making it happen.

Disclaimer: Yes, I do like beer. But, I only like MY beer in MY basement. I do not like YOUR beer, nor will I drink it at YOUR event.
